Custom Microbial ID Services
Developing a comprehensive understanding of a microbial population can be greatly assisted by knowing the actual species that are likely to be involved. This information can be used, for example, to target sources of bacterial and fungal contamination, to characterize new pathogens, or to analyze complex microbial consortia that inhabit a particular environment.
Sequence-based analysis is rapidly becoming the preferred method for positive identification of bacteria, archaea and fungi, both because it provides highly detailed information (such as phylogenetic relationships) and because it can be applied to uncultivated microbes (e.g., viable but non-culturable organisms). However, many available methods cannot handle mixtures of species because they complicate the analysis.
For this reason, as a complement to our imaging-based mBID technology, KAIROS offers a custom service based on DNA sequencing and analysis of ribosomal RNA genes which offers reliable information about the species composition of complex samples. Contact us for more details.
